Why Did We Create This Course?
Next Step Rehab Education was founded to provide evidence-based rehabilitation information to professionals working with the limb loss population. After working for several years in this space, it became apparent that there were little to no available continuing education options for clinicians to improve their understanding of prosthetics and rehab tools. Thus, this course was born to provide these professionals with the information needed to improve outcomes and function in patients with limb loss.

Danny Keller is a physical therapist and Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF, who cares for patients with orthopedic injuries and ailments. He treats all types of musculoskeletal conditions, ranging from generalized joint pain to sports injuries. Danny also works as a staff PT at the University of California Berkeley, where he treats Division 1 NCAA athletes from all sports.
Danny is one of the therapists in UCSF's specialized clinic and program for patients who have undergone limb amputation. He works with specialists in orthopedic oncology and prosthetics to care for amputees having difficulty with rehab or daily activities following amputation surgery. This team-based approach aims to help amputees improve function by employing a range of methods, such as changing current prosthetic devices, adjusting rehab regimens and osseointegration, a procedure that connects the patient's bone to the prosthetic limb.
Dr. Keller has been involved in numerous research projects. He contributed to the development of exercise programs for NASA astronauts with low back pain as well as a study on the effects of cupping (an ancient Chinese treatment that uses negative pressure) on the body. He continues to pursue research on patient care in orthopedics and sports medicine.
Danny earned his doctor of physical therapy degree in the joint program of UCSF and San Francisco State University. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, through which he is certified as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS).
Outside of work, Danny enjoys traveling, spending time with his family, coaching his son's Little League teams, and rooting for his favorite Bay Area sports teams.
